Originally built in 1939 for Lord and Lady Strickland, The Phoenicia Malta is atimeless-classic-turned-luxury-retreat. After a multimillion-dollar refresh, this architectural art-deco beauty, with 132 guest rooms, is once again Valletta’s grande dame of hotels. At the heart of The Phoenicia Malta, The Palm Court Lounge opens to a sprawling terrace overlooking the gardens. Elegant but approachable colonial-chic interiors were designed in collaboration with esteemed U.K. designer Peter Young. The cheery Mediterranean patterns and greenery of the lobby flow seamlessly into the rooms, where you can find similar aesthetics with pops of blue and pink. Beyond the infinity outdoor pool, the hotel has a large indoor pool as part of its Deep Nature Spa with a sauna, steam room and salt room. Thanks to the onsite vegetable garden, the hotel’s Phoenix Restaurant features international favorites, like beef Wellington and heirloom tomato salad, with seasonally fresh, garden-to-table ingredients. After dinner, The Club Bar is the ideal spot to relax with a glass of Maltese wine on the terrace.
